What is Ayurveda?
To start with, Ayurveda is a natural system of medicine from India that dates back over 3,000 years. Ayur- means "life" and -veda means "science or knowledge" in Sanskrit. Together, they translate to "knowledge of life".
This medicine is based on the concept of disease being due to an imbalance or stress, particularly in the digestive system. A healthy digestive system is at the core of ayurvedic medicine and our ability to break down, absorb, assimilate and eliminate food to avoid stemming from poor digestion.

Even if we are eating the cleanest food, it wouldn't matter our body if the nutrients and the goodness from the food can't reach the appropriate tissues in our body. A highly functional digestive system is said to have strong digestive fire (agni) which helps the body absorb what it needs and eliminate the rest.Β It uses the food we eat to produce vital fluids (ojas), which feeds the body's tissues and maintain vitality, immunity and radiance.
So why do an Ayurvedic Cleanse?

A seasonal Ayurvedic cleanse can help prevent accumulation of excess of one season or dosha (more about doshas coming up!) to prevent seasonal sicknesses or major illnesses.
- A cleanse helps clear your Srotas, which are any channels in your body with two openings and a physical structure - think digestive tract, nerves, blood vessels, respiratory tract.
- A cleanse helps rid the body of ama-toxic sludge, which is the accumulation of anything undigested, including emotions.
A true Ayurvedic cleanse can help restore the natural flow and circulation of your whole body!

What are Doshas?
According to ayurvedic medicine, the world is made up of five elements - aakash (space), jala (water), prithvi (earth), teja (fire) and vay (air).
A combination of each element results in three doshas (humors), which are vata, kapha, and pitta.Β They are believed to be responsible for your physiological, mental and emotional health.
Each person has their own unique combination of the three doshas, but one tends to stand out more than the others. This combination determines your constitution - a guide to ultimate, optimal health.
